I am Puspalata Sahu(25), belong to Other Backward Class (OBC) category and by religion I am a Hindu, born and brought up in the village of Katapanga in Phiringia block of Kandhamal district. I have completed class 7th in village school. Due to financial crisis in the family could not continue my schooling. As a member of the Cooperative Society in the village I was actively working as a volunteer.

In the year 2010,I joined as aWoman Barefoot Communicatorin Jan Vikas. I received series of trainings on leadership, photography and videography. I identified different village issues in my locality which needed to be paid attention.

From the beginning I was trained up at Jana Vikas and shared with the other women to take up their village issues.  I have produced 10 no of issue based documentary film to access Government benefits and resolved some of the issues on drinking water, electricity, housing and other benefits.

I have been invited to SFDC (Solidarity for Developing Communities) organization based in Berhampur to give training to the staffs and the community members on photography and videography for lobby and advocacy.

I feel ashamed when I remember my first month of learning on photography but today I feel happy to realize that uneducated trainee has become the trainer on photography.

Finally, I am grateful to Misereor and Jana Vikas for giving me such an opportunity to develop my own capacity to be useful in my society.
